Tell Me

November 15, 2008 Leave a comment

Description: Clicking on “Tell me” reveals answer to question. In the example below, the Tell me text is below the > Tell me button, sometimes a colored box is used to show the new text.

When to Use: This is a great technique to add interactivity and maintain whitespace. Tell Me is not a test, it is used to initiate thinking about the subject,  it is similar to an instructor prompting a student for an answer in class.

Folder Tabs

Description: Image of folders with tabs that students can click on. It’s a fun visual that is interactive and saves space.

When to Use: When information is optional. Information that is important to the course should always be shown in the body of the page. Not all students interact with WBTs. Lists of examples for each category works well in this style.

Expand for more

May 7, 2008 Leave a comment

Description: Include an expand button to show additional content or expand graphics.

When to Use: Expanding images show the details of  a graphic that had to be minimized to be shown on the same page as the topic text or to show additional text that is not required reading. Because not all students explore interactivity on a page, text that is required reading should always be shown directly on the page.
